Use of personal data collected
Contact form
If you fill out the contact form, we collect the name, email address and the content of the message you send us. The form is intended for general enquiries or appointment requests: please do not use it to send medical records, diagnostic images, clinical reports or other health information. If you nonetheless choose to include this type of information in your message, it will be handled with the same confidentiality as the rest of the information collected through the form.
The information you submit is transmitted and processed through the form-handling infrastructure of our hosting provider (Netlify, see the Legal notice) and forwarded to Dr. Maiola in order to respond to your request. It is not used for marketing purposes.
The contact form is also protected by Google reCAPTCHA, an anti-spam service that analyses interaction with the form (and may process your IP address and other technical data) to distinguish requests submitted by real people from automated ones. Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply.
Cookies
When you browse the site, a functional cookie named lang_selected is created, valid for about one year. Its only purpose is to remember the language you chose to view, so you don’t have to select it again on each visit; it does not contain any personal data. It is the only cookie set directly by this site; the audience measurement described below uses none. The Google reCAPTCHA service used by the contact form may set its own cookies for the purposes described in the paragraph above.
Audience measurement
To understand how the site is used (pages viewed, approximate number of visitors, referring sites), we use Umami, an open-source audience-measurement tool, on a dedicated instance run on Dr. Maiola’s behalf by a technical provider. It sets no cookies and is not used for advertising.
On each page view, your browser sends the address and title of the page, the page you came from, your screen size and browser language and, as with any request, your IP address and browser identifier. Your IP address is not stored: it is used to derive your approximate location (country, region, city) and, combined with your browser identifier and a secret value that changes every month, a pseudonymous visitor identifier. This identifier makes it possible to count unique visitors over a calendar month, but it is not linked to your identity or to other websites. Your browser, operating system and type of device are also recorded.
This processing is based on Dr. Maiola’s legitimate interest in measuring the site’s audience (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The data is used only for aggregate statistics, is not combined with other data and is not shared with third parties for their own purposes. You may object to it at any time by writing to the address below, or directly in this browser with the button below. The choice is stored in this browser only and applies to this site.
Requests are processed by Vercel Inc. (a United States company) in its data centres in the European Union, and the data is stored by OVH SAS in France. Any access from the United States is covered by the safeguards provided for in Articles 45 and 46 GDPR (EU–US Data Privacy Framework and/or the standard contractual clauses in Vercel’s data processing agreement).
Embedded content from other sites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles…). Content embedded from other sites behaves in the same way as if the visitor were visiting that other site.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking tools, track your interactions with such embedded content if you have an account logged into their website.
Use and transmission of your personal data
How long to store your data
Information submitted through the contact form is kept only for as long as necessary to handle and respond to your request and, where applicable, for any further period required by legal or administrative obligations.
Audience-measurement data is deleted periodically once it is more than 25 months old.
The rights you have on your data
If you have made a contact request, you can request to receive a file containing all the personal data we hold about you, including the data you have provided us with. You may also request the deletion of your personal data. This does not include data stored for administrative, legal or security purposes.
Transmission of your personal data
Information collected through the contact form is not sold or used for marketing or advertising purposes. The site and the contact form do, however, rely on infrastructure and services provided by third parties, which may receive or process the technical information necessary to their respective functions: Netlify provides the site’s hosting and contact-form-handling infrastructure, Google reCAPTCHA provides the form’s anti-spam protection, and Vercel and OVH host the audience-measurement tool, as described above.
